This is one of the many times I remember I am fortunate to live in Thailand. The weather is glorious here! It’s about 25 degrees with humidity only 35%. The skies are quite clear and I can see for miles from the apartment.

Here’s a comparison of the BBC Weather Forecasts for Bangkok, London and San Francisco. You can click on a picture to see it full-size.

Armistice Day

November 11, 2009

It’s November 11th, Armistice Day.

World War 1 on the Western Front ended 91 years ago today. I don’t think Thai people are very aware of it as they were mercifully far removed from the conflict. However, there is a “Veteran Monument of World War 1” or “Expeditionary Force Monument” near the Sanam Luang Royal Field. It commemorates the Thai Volunteers who served in the Great War.

Here are two contrasting pictures from Picapp of ceremonies at the Cenotaph in Whitehall, London. The first is in 1920 and the second last year, 2008.

LONDON – NOVEMBER 11 2008: First World War veterans 108 year old Bill Stone, Harry Patch, 110 and Henry Allingham, 112 gather at the Armistice day commemorations at the Cenotaph on November 11, 2008 in London, England. Veterans gathered at the Cenotaph for a ceremony that included a two-minute silence observed at 11.00am, the moment when the Armistice Treaty was signed by the Allies and Germany in a railway carriage in the Forest of Compiegne, France, bringing to an end four years of conflict.
