Pogue Answers Reader Questions on Windows 7

From the Desk of David Pogue – Pogue Answers Reader Questions on Windows 7 – NYTimes.com.

I like David’s straight answers to readers’ questions. I am sticking with Windows XP for my current PC.

I like this question and answer:

* Who cares about Windows Vista or Windows 7? Only the “sheeple” who blindly follow the PC current. XP was the best OS to come out of Redmond. As someone who has been in the field since 1984, I say that Windows is on its last legs!

DP replies: A lot of you share this sentiment. Yes, Windows XP remains a stalwart, reliable, brisk operating system. At the same time, sticking with XP forever isn’t a slam-dunk, either. You miss out on better security, better looks, better search and a huge number of convenience features. And over time, more and more cool products and services will require more recent software.

Still–if it’s doing the job for you, and the new Windows 7 features don’t appeal to you, then it’s perfectly OK to stick with XP.

Although I would argue that Windows 2000 was Microsoft’s best OS.
