Royal Thai Air Force Museum, Bangkok

I love this museum. It shows a fascinating collection of aircraft and helicopters that have served in the Royal Thai Air Force over the years. Some are displayed outside but many are protected from the elements.

It is FREE to enter and open every day of the year excluding holidays. (I like free!)

I made a couple of visits in the last week. I posted a couple of pictures to Flickr like this one

and more to PicasaWeb here. You can see the precise location on the map as all the photos are geotagged.

It’s quite easy to get to the museum from the Subway. The nearest station is Phahon Yothin. You can then get a taxi or bus north on Thanon Phahon Yothin to the museum. It’s quite a long drive and the traffic is heavy. But Bangkok Taxis are reasonably priced:  I paid just over 100 Baht (less than US$4) for the 20 minute trip.

If you take the Skytrain go to Mo Chit Station and take a taxi, but it’s a bit further.

The museum is part of the military complex on the east side of the old Dom Muang Airport.

I think it is best to visit in the morning. Many of the exhibits are outdoors and it gets very hot.

If you are interested in the details of the exhibits the museum has a web site in English here. The Thai Aviation site has a detailed list of all the exhibits here.

Incidentally, Thai Aviation has a lot more information for aircraft enthusiasts like Thai civil and military aircraft registers in English. They also have a list of aircraft “wrecks and relics” that you can search for all over the country.
