Royal Navy Grave in Bangkok

Royal Navy Grave

This is the grave of Able Seaman Brian Charles Dade, RN of HMS London (D16), in the Bangkok Protestant Cemetery, Bangkok, Thailand.

Dade died on 3rd March 1965 aged 25 during HMS London’s 1964-65 deployment.

I found this information in the WikiPedia article on HMS London at: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_London_(D16)

I went to the cemetery to see if I could find the grave. It’s still there, but the inscription is barely legible. The cemetery itself is not in good shape – large areas of it are flooded.

I paid my respects to his memory.

I wonder what the sad story was. Dade would be about 69 years old now if he’d survived. Why wasn’t his body wasn’t returned to England?

I remember HMS London when I lived in Gosport, England when I was a child. I was 9 years old when he died.
