Treasures From National Geographic Society’s Underground Trove – NYTimes.com.

I always loved National Geographic Magazine when I was a kid growing up in England. Of course part of the attraction was the “bare breasted natives” but the quality of the pictures from all over the world was amazing. I don’t think there was anything else like it in the ’60s and ’70s. It was printed on good paper so copies lasted for ever.

The magazine was published int he US. I remember the ads for American cars – so big and luxurious looking. Also seemingly quirky products like a stair lift for disabled people stick in my mind. To a young boy the advertisements were as good as the articles.

It says a lot about the National Geographic Society that they have preserved so many pictures in good conditions. They deserve to profit from them.

They have an excellent photography section on their web site.

National Geographic Magazine is available here in the Thai language.
