The Royal Thai Navy has some old ships. HMTS Lanta was launched in the States in 1945. It was transferred to Thailand in 1970 according to this site on the navy.

I wonder how the RTN keeps it running.

I took this picture from a Skytrain crossing the Chao Praya River on the Silom Line extension to Thonburi. I like the river crossing but I have found zero of interest near the two new stations on the western side of the river.

Tip: if you want to take photographs from a Skytrain, stand at the very front or rear doors. Intermediate windows are often partially obscured by the advertising livery. They are 90% transparent due to some clever technique also used on buses but it is far better to shoot through clear glass. Skytrain windows are invariably clean, unlike Bangkok’s buses.

I had a comment on the photo from someone who said he served on this ship when it was with the US Navy in 1945-46. I asked him for more info.

To me the ship looks like it hasn’t been modified / modernised a lot since WW2.

It was still there when I went over the river last week.
